Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers and sellers ask us most.

We earn a brokerage commission — typically a small per-metric-ton fee or percentage of transaction value. Our fee is usually paid by the seller and is factored into the agreed price. We're transparent about our commission structure upfront, before any deal is committed to.
We only work with suppliers we have direct knowledge of or who have an established track record. We verify business registration, export history, and where possible, connect buyers with third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas, etc.) before shipment. We also recommend buyers use a Letter of Credit for added security on first transactions.
It depends on the commodity and trade route. For container shipments, typical minimums are 1 × 20ft container (~20 MT) up to 2–3 containers. For bulk vessel trades, minimums are generally 500–1,000 MT. We can accommodate smaller quantities on certain routes — reach out and we'll advise based on your specific needs.
We work with all standard Incoterms — FOB, CFR, and CIF are most common for the trade corridors we work in. FOB (Free On Board) from a Canadian port is typically preferred by experienced importers who manage their own freight. CIF is available for buyers who want an all-in price to their destination port. We can help you understand which Incoterm is best for your situation.
Payment terms depend on the supplier and the relationship. Letter of Credit (LC at sight or usance) is standard for first-time transactions and provides security for both parties. Wire transfer (TT) against documents is common for established relationships. We help facilitate alignment on payment terms as part of the deal structure.
Standard export documentation includes: Phytosanitary Certificate (Canadian Food Inspection Agency), Certificate of Origin, Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, and Packing List. Additional certifications — such as organic, non-GMO, kosher, or halal — are available from select suppliers on request. We confirm documentation requirements for each destination before confirming a deal.
Yes. Sometimes parties know each other but want a neutral third party to help facilitate and coordinate the transaction. We can assist with deal structuring, specification alignment, and logistics coordination — even when both buyer and seller are already identified.
Timeline varies depending on volume, commodity, and how quickly both parties confirm. A container deal (20–60 MT) can move from inquiry to shipment in 2–4 weeks. Larger bulk vessel trades typically take 4–8 weeks from initial inquiry to vessel loading, depending on LC opening, product availability, and port scheduling.
Process & Value

How We Work With You &
Why Choose Meridian

Four transparent steps from first inquiry to completed deal — plus an honest breakdown of why Meridian Axis Global is the right partner for your business.

The Process
01

You Reach Out

The process starts with a simple inquiry. Tell us what commodity you're dealing with, your approximate volume, and what you're looking for — buyer, seller, or both. No complex forms, no commitment required.

02

Understanding Your Requirements

We'll ask the right questions — commodity grade, volume, origin or destination preferences, timing, and quality/certification requirements. The better we understand your position, the better we can find a match.

03

Finding a Counterparty

We work to identify suitable buyers or sellers who match your requirements. When a potential match is found, both parties are introduced — while sensitive commercial details remain confidential until both sides are ready.

04

Facilitating the Deal

Once buyer and seller are engaged, we support communication and coordination — helping align on price, specifications, payment terms, and logistics. We keep the process moving toward agreement.

Who We Are

Built on Real Relationships
Across Real Markets

Moses Gonsalves — Founder, Meridian Axis Global
Moses Gonsalves
Founder, Meridian Axis Global
Toronto, Canada
Qatar-born Canada-raised Gulf markets South Asia Capital markets
moses@meridianaxisglobal.com

Meridian Axis Global was founded by Moses Gonsalves — a Toronto-based entrepreneur with roots in Qatar and a career background in capital markets.

Moses was born in Qatar and moved to Canada at eight years old, growing up between two worlds. In the years since, he has travelled regularly between Toronto, Dubai, Doha, and Dhaka — maintaining active ties to the Gulf and South Asian markets that are now central to Meridian Axis Global's trade focus. That background is not incidental. It is the foundation of how this company operates: with genuine cultural understanding of both ends of the supply chain, not just a map on a website.

Before founding Meridian Axis Global, Moses worked in capital markets and investor relations — helping companies raise capital and building the case for investment to sophisticated counterparties. That experience sharpened skills that translate directly into commodity brokerage: how to earn trust quickly, how to communicate clearly across different expectations, and how to move a transaction forward when parties have competing interests. Commodity trade is ultimately a people business. Getting a buyer and seller to agree — on price, specification, terms, and timing — requires the same discipline as closing an investment round.

The focus on Canadian lentils, pulses, and grains is deliberate. Canada is the world's largest exporter of lentils and chickpeas, with production concentrated in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The primary buyers of that production are in India, the UAE, Bangladesh, Turkey, and Pakistan — markets Moses knows personally, not just commercially. The trade corridor makes geographic and cultural sense. The goal is to build it with the kind of transparency and direct communication that the industry often lacks.

"

Commodity brokerage runs on trust. You are asking buyers to commit capital and sellers to commit cargo based on a relationship. We think the way to build that trust is through honesty — about what we can do, what the market looks like, and what a deal actually involves. That is what we are here to do.

— Moses Gonsalves, Founder
Our Focus

Why Canada to
Asia & the Gulf

The trade corridor we work in is one of the most established and volume-driven in global agricultural commodity trade. Here is why it makes sense — and why we are positioned to work within it.

Canadian Supply

Saskatchewan and Alberta produce more lentils than any region on earth. Canada No.1 grade is the global benchmark. The supply is large, consistent, and trusted by buyers across Asia.

Personal Market Knowledge

Regular travel to Dubai, Doha, and Dhaka gives us direct familiarity with how buyers in these markets operate, what they need, and how they communicate. That is not something you acquire from a desk.

Direct Communication

Every inquiry comes directly to Moses. No account managers, no layers. If you send a message, you get a response from the person who will actually work your deal.

Transparent by Design

Our fee structure is disclosed upfront. We tell you what we can and cannot do. If your inquiry is not a fit, we say so directly rather than wasting your time.

Work With Us

If the corridor fits,
let's talk.

Whether you are a Canadian exporter looking for qualified buyers, or an importer in Asia or the Gulf looking for a reliable source — reach out and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
